Where are Smart Cards Found?
Smart cards have been widely used in Europe since the 1980s.  Card companies are actively migrating existing magnetic stripe credit cards to chip cards.  There are a number of smart card test programs underway in the USA and millions of smart cards are already in circulation in Asia Pacific today. Countries like Australia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore are actively issuing chip-based payment cards for multi-applications and value-added programs.  These cards could carry payment and non-payment applications such as transit, medical insurance and identification.
