Anyone over the age of 21 years with an annual income of between RM18,000 and RM24,000 can apply for a basic principal classic or silver credit card while the minimum age for a supplementary card is 18 years.
Gold and platinum cards require much higher annual income brackets as imposed by the respective card-issuing institutions - usually about RM48,000 and RM150,000 respectively.
In order to apply for a credit card, all you have to do is submit your credit card application to the bank or institution which issues credit cards together with a photocopy of your IC, job appointment letter, three months salary slips, bank statement or savings passbook and latest income tax statement. Different banks may impose other requirements as required.
Once your application is approved, your credit card will be sent to you by courier or registered mail or you may be requested to collect it from the bank. You will also be given a PIN number in a sealed document for use when you make cash advances or when you use your card online.
